What is Morris Dancing?
Morris dancing is a form of English traditional dance. Its origins are
lost in the mists of time,
but "The Morrice" was considered ancient in Shakespeare's time. The
dances survived in rural
England, to be recoreded and spread by 19th century folklorists, and
are now performed by
enthusiasts in every corner of te English-speaking world. The dances
we perform are from
village traditions of the Cotswold region. Traditionally the
Morris was danced to celebrate
the changing seasons and believed to ensure growth, good harvest, and
luck to all.
Who is Muddy River Morris?
We are women from all walks and professions, who dance the Morris for
the fun of it. Our group
was formed over 20 years ago and has performed at folk festivals,
weddings, historical sites, and
other events. We practice weekly in Arlington MA and always welcome
new members.
Our annual "Fruit and Foliage Tour" is a great way to enjoy a glorious
autumn day.
